Reading Chapter 1: Day 53

Today we continued reading To Kill a Mockingbird in class. Students who will be reading Other Voices, Other Rooms as an Honors project went to the library to read that instead.

1. Do now. We added information to our reading guide.

2. Reading Calendar. All students received this calendar to guide them through their readings: TKAM Calendar Fall 2011. This calendar is three pages long, so here’s the breakdown: Regular English is page 1, Honors English is page 2, Honors Project reading of Other Voices, Other Rooms is page 3.

3. Imagining characters. We watched about five minutes of the film To Kill a Mockingbird (yes, the one with the brilliant Gregory Peck) so students could have an image of what characters might look like.

4. Reading. Students listened to the audiobook version of the novel, read by Sissy Spacek, stopping frequently to respond to questions and add to their reading guide.
