Garvoille Headshot Teaching 2Alexa Garvoille is a writer, educator, and creative writing studies scholar. She edits poetry for NCTE’s English Journal and serves on the board of the Creative Writing Studies Organization. Alexa holds a BA in Literature from Yale, an MA in Teaching from Duke, and an MFA in Creative Writing from Virginia Tech. As an educator, she has taught students from middle school to graduate school, but she most enjoys facilitating the creative writing of young adults. Her editorial goals center on elevating marginalized voices through publication, and her research areas include creative writing pedagogy, anti-racist education, and alternative workshop methods. Alexa’s creative work explores gender, queerness, and memory. Alexa currently teaches Creative Writing and American Studies at the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, North Carolina.
