STUDENT PUBLICATION: LITERARY + ARTS MAGAZINE
Portraits in Ink, the Durham School of the Arts Literary + Art Magazine earned national and regional recognition from the Southern Interscholastic Press Association, the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association, and the Columbia Scholastic Press Association. Advised by Alexa Garvoille 2014 – 2018. Student editors led staff training in diversity in publishing, working with authors on edits, and copyediting.
COLLABORATION: SYNESTHESIA
High school creative writers collaborated with the guitar program to created a spoken-word album produced by JAMM, a student musician. This month-long project incorporated concept brainstorming, group writing sessions, meeting with musicians, recording on professional software, and designing an album insert featuring student artwork.
COLLABORATION: VISUAL ART + WRITING PROCESS
Creative writing and intermediate 2D students collaborated in a multi-week exploration of how artists and writers integrate process into their thinking. The collaboration kicked off with a TASK party, then students formed groups based on thematic interests. Over the course of the next few weeks, small groups developed their own processes that culminated in a gallery show.
