Today, we worked on allusions to The Odyssey.
1. Students read “Dream 3,” by Naguib Mahfouz. (Click here to read.) Then, they did a 3-2-1 by listing 3 similarities to The Odyssey, 2 differences from The Odyssey, and posing 1 question about the reading. We annotated “Dream 3” as a class on the overhead, marking similarities and differences in different colors.
2. Students chose their own allusion to read. In groups of 2-3 or individually, students began annotating a poem that alludes to The Odyssey. Students need to finish this annotation for Monday. Directions for the annotation are below and can be downloaded here: Allusions to The Odyssey.

HW: Study for WordSkills Unit 1-3 test on Monday. Make flashcards for extra credit. Finish annotation of allusion poem (except 1st period), due Monday.
