1. Today we prepared to read Romeo and Juliet by filling out this character chart, which has a study guide on the back that students need to complete as they read: Romeo and Juliet Reading Guide and Timeline (front and back).
2. Then, students learned a little about the history of Elizabethan England:
3. Finally, we annotated the Prologue on this half sheet, L22: Guided Notes Background
4. Lastly, we began reading Act I, scene i of the play! It’s hilarious. We discussed why a play about love would start out with such violence and how Shakespeare used humor to get the audience engaged.
