1A, 1B, and 4B
1. Warm-up: Students wrote three sentences using three forms of the word ambivalent. They received oral feedback on their usage and will receive written feedback next class.
2. Vocabulary notes. Most classes took notes on numbers 5-10. We learned 2 new SAT words (condescending and disdain)!
3. Memoir choice. Students chose which full-length memoir to read from our four selections, Bad Boy (Walter Dean Myers), I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings (Maya Angelou), The Color of Water (James McBride), and Black Boy (Richard Wright). Students need to read the first chapter of their memoir at home before their next English class. If you would like to buy your own copy to write in, please do! You can find all of these at used bookstores and Barnes and Noble (though Bad Boy may be harder to find). If you have a Kindle or Nook you feel comfortable bringing to school, you can also download the book there and read the eBook!
HW: Read chapter one of your memoir by next class. Bad Boy “Roots” chapter; Caged Bird through page 4 or 9; Color of Water “Dead” chapter; Black Boy all of chapter 1.
3AB

4A
