1. Review of Hero’s Journey. In groups, students listed the qualities of Odysseus that matched up with the archetypal hero qualities listed on L27. Then, they listed how the hero’s journey matched up with The Odyssey.
2. Oral Quiz. Students answered oral quiz questions on the end of the poem.
3. The Hero’s Journey through art. Students looked at four paintings by Thomas Cole entitled “The Voyage of Life.” Looking at these painting, students attempted to apply the hero’s journey to each and then develop a new quality of the hero’s journey based on the painting.
