1. Theme in the bildungsroman. Students worked on their own or in their Wikipedia groups to complete a brief annotation of a passage that illustrates a theme in their novel. Here’s the directions if you were gone: Theme in the Bildungsroman. I gave students an example annotation of a few lines from To Kill a Mockingbird.
2. Plot. Next, students began writing out the main events of their novel in an attempt to begin planning a summary of the story. In some classes we used paper and sticky notes to visualize this; in some classes we used a worksheet: Plot flowchart. Both techniques worked. If you were in 4th, 5th, or 6th period you need to finish your flowchart for tomorrow. If you were in 1st or 2nd period we will continue working collaboratively in class tomorrow, so you have no homework.
