Day 131: TP-CASTT

1. Personification homework. Students labeled the different personification techniques used in the poem they wrote for homework. We then turned in the poem and the annotation.

2. TP-CASTT practice. TP-CASTT is a method of analyzing a poem to break it down into something more comprehensible. Here is a sheet explaining it: TPCASTT. We reviewed the different steps by applying them to the William Wordsworth poem, “A Slumber Did My Spirit Seal” (L30):

A slumber did my spirit seal;
I had no human fears:
She seemed a thing that could not feel
The touch of earthly years.
No motion has she now, no force;
She neither hears nor sees;
Rolled round in earth’s diurnal course,
With rocks, and stones, and trees.

3. Independent practice. Students chose one of the following poems to fill in their own TPCASTT chart on for homework:

HW: Select one of the poems above. Fill out a TPCASTT chart on it for homework due tomorrow. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO READ THE OTHER POEM.
