Today students got the final assignment for the non-profit speech they have been working on all semester. The rough draft (2 pages, double-spaced) will be due Friday for peer editing. The speeches will be presented Monday and Tuesday.
1. We went over the assignment. Download a copy of the assignment here: Speech Requirements. I encourage students to bring in props, music, slideshows, etc. to make this a convincing argument!
2. Reader’s Theater. We finished acting out the scene in which Tybalt and Mercutio are killed.
3. Rhetorical devices. We went over some rhetorical devices students might use in their speeches, locating the devices in an Obama speech, and then writing our own sentences using the devices.
HW: Rough draft of speech due Friday. Read the rest of Act III of Romeo and Juliet for tomorrow.
