1. Students performed a close-reading on the first paragraph of Great Expectations for a classwork grade. Here is the handout: Assertion Writing Practice 1. We discussed our answers as we went.
2. Students then examined a variety of motifs present in the novel and completed a gallery-walk to add their connections to each. At the end of class, students completed a Great Expectations Motif Choice card, in which they selected their top three choices for motifs they were interested in exploring further.
HW: Honors – read chapters 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10 for Wednesday. Standard – read chapters 5, 7, and 8 for Wednesday. You will receive a summary of the other chapters.
