Day 21: Final Memoir Writing Workshop

Today was our second to last full working day on our memoir project.

  1. Students met with Writing Groups to share full final drafts. I checked to see whether students had their drafts with them. Students followed a checklist to make sure their draft is up to grading standards.

Absent students and parents can download this full draft checklist to go through. Attention all writers: the more people you have read your writing and give you feedback, the better your writing is likely to be.

HW:

Honors: Full final version of your memoir is due Monday (8 pp. minimum). You should add the changes written on your Full Draft Checklist. You can also look at the editing template from Day 18 to make sure you don’t use exclamation points, capitals, dialogue, etc. incorrectly. If you do not have 8 pages and cannot get to 8 pages you should not add filler to get there. I would rather have 5 well-crafted, detailed, moving pages than 10 pages of rambling. You must also bring to class all your rough drafts, your Checklist from today, and your Writer’s Notebook (see Sept. 24th post for details).

Standard: Full second draft of your memoir is due Monday (5 pp. minimum). You should add the changes written on your Full Draft Checklist. This should be typed (preferred) or handwritten in ink on every other line.
