Our schedule today:
1. Turn in description homework from the weekend. If you are absent, you need to turn this in to me on Tuesday.
2. Information about grouping preferences. If you are absent, you need to answer the following questions for me on a separate sheet of paper with your name on it:
- Do you want me to challenge you in class by calling on you randomly and asking you to volunteer? Or would this embarass you too much? I hope some extroverts will ask me to challenge them in class.
- Do you want to work with people on your same skill level, at a higher skill level (because you need extra help and wouldn’t be embarassed), or at a lower skill level (because you like to tutor and help your fellow students)?
- Are there any people in this class you work well with? Who? Are there any people in this class you know you do not work well with? Who?
3. Seating charts. Everyone now has a seating chart with names on it so we can use people’s names in discussion.
4. Episode notes. We discussed the idea that memoirs are episodic. Episodes are specific moments or events that have some element of drama to them. Episodes are often vivid memories or life-changing moments. Any absent students need to get notes from a classmate.
5. Episode brainstorming. What are some memorable episodes from your life? Discuss with a partner (or your parent).
HW: Stones in the River assignment. This will help you brainstorm some important events in your life to begin writing about on Wednesday.
