Today we started discussing memoir as a genre, its definition, and how it differs from autobiography. Tonight is the first night students have homework and the assignment is family-oriented. More info below.
Today’s schedule was:
1. Write about different quotations describing memoir. (To be posted here soon).
2. (Some classes): List, group, label what you know about memoir. Students found commonalities in their definitions of memoir.
3. Discuss the goal of this unit on memoir: To write your own memoir. Writing is a process, not a one-time activity. We will draft, shape, craft, polish, and publish student memoirs.
4. Intro to name chart.
HW: Complete your own name chart. Parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles you should help out on this assignment! This is a prewriting brainstorming activity that needs to be completed before we start writing about our names. I have a detailed example below of what the name chart should look like. You can complete it on notebook paper in your writing journal.
You can also use this Word template: My Name Prewriting.
